The
village of Flushing situated across the water from Falmouth
harbour, one of the finest deep water harbours in the world,
was first mentioned in 1653 when State Papers reported “smuggled
goods in the village of Flushing”. The sea walls of Flushing
were originally built by Dutchmen who came from the port of
Vlissingen in Holland, a name which the Cornish turned into
‘Flushing’.
As time went by the village evolved with more houses and storage
facilities being built to accommodate the Packet Ship Captains,
crews and ships gear. The visiting ships would moor along side
new quay to take on water and provisions to make ready for their
next long voyage.Flushing is now a quiet harbour side village,
reputed to be the warmest village in England, due to its own
micro climate created by it’s sheltered south-west aspect.
It has all facilities expected in a village, including a couple
of shops, post office, two pubs and a restaurant; and its own
safe bathing beach. The daily Flushing ferry service will take
you on a short trip across the river Fal to the busy town of
Falmouth with many excellent shops and restaurants. A short
walk through Falmouth will bring you to highly acclaimed National
Maritime Museum, Cornwall. |

Flushing
is perfectly located to visit the very best of Cornwall:
The National Maritime Museum , Pendennis Castle, the beautiful
gardens of Trelissick, Trebar and Glendurgan are all close
at hand. The Eden Project and The Tate Gallery at St. Ives
are no more than an hours drive. The famous outdoor Minnack
Theatre and Land’s End are slightly more than an hour;
and of course the spectacular coastline is on our doorstep.
